Early this morning I watched Pistol Pete Hegseth's latest press conference. Practically foaming at the mouth, the secretary treated us to his technical litany of destruction. Oddly, there was not a single question about the Strait of Hormuz.
During his last conference he told one impertinent reporter "don't worry" about the Strait of Hormuz. This time, the question the whole world is concerned about, never came up. The offending word was uttered not a single time by the Department of War's tame press corps. Guess the organ grinder spoke sharply to the monkeys prior to going live.
El Pistola—who visited the theatre of war over the weekend—treated us to a well scripted hagiography touting the efficiency, competence and bravery of our "war fighters" making sure he mentioned their support for the war, their commitment to finish the job and their respect, admiration and yes, their deep gratitude to President Donald J. Trump.
Meanwhile, the strait remains firmly closed, and AAA reports that the price of oil continues its rise while Trump condemns our NATO allies as "cowards" on True Social for refusing to march to his martial tune or buy into a war they weren't even told about. I recall a televised interview with a retired lieutenant general who said the army had been war gaming the potential closing for over forty-five years—remember Millennium Challenge 2002? Reports say Trump was made aware of the potential by his generals but dismissed it.
Is Iran a real threat? Absolutely! But is it as Trump claims, immanent? Depends on your definition of immanent. Wait, didn't President Trump tell us that Iran's nuclear program "totally obliterated" by Operation Midnight Hammer, this past June?
One thing seems abundantly clear: You don't build a coalition of thirty-five nations as George H. W. Bush did in Kuwait in 1990 or the forty-nation coalition George W. marshalled in Afghanistan in 2001 by going on one insult tour after another denigrating allied courage and their contributions last time around.
